Allah, Liberty, and Love at City Club of Cleveland

Thumbnail
March 2, 2012 from 12pm to 2pm
The City Club hosts Professor Irshad Manji, Founder of the Moral Courage Project, who will speak on "Allah, Liberty and Love."  It costs $18 for members/ $30 for non-members.  Professor Manji teaches at NYU's School of Public Service and the New York University’s School of Public Service. She is the author of The Trouble with Islam Today:  A Muslim’s Call to Reform in Her Faith, and Allah, Liberty and Love.  A very brave woman, she has had to hire bodyguards because of her demonstrated moral courage in speaking out. Moral Courage Project:Disrupting tradition to achieve justice despite personal risk is the essence of leadership. Leadership requires Moral Courage. Today, conventional approaches aren’t enough to shape the character of the world’s youth or sufficient for today’s leaders to mentor the next generation.  How can we utilize today’s various social media platforms to teach a new generation to become gutsy global citizens?  This answer is the Moral Courage Project, locally here in Cleveland and globally.   Based at New York University’s School of Public Service, the MCP teaches students to think beyond the orthodoxy within their community— be it a religious, cultural, ideological, or professional community-or even in their own backyard. The MCP inspires students to pose emotionally difficult questions, raise doubts to loosen the grip of groupthink, and appreciate that real diversity includes diversity of thought.See More
